You need three focused hours, a prepared kit, and an experienced fabricator close by while you turn individual pieces of steel into something worth taking home.

Safe setup + project plan
Gear up, learn the essential heat, fire, and electrical safety rules, then walk through your ready-to-build project kit and fit-up sequence.

Fit-up + first welds
Clamp, square, and tack your parts so the build stays true. Practice MIG torch angle, puddle control, and travel speed with Michael close by.
03Minutes 90–180
Finish your steel project
Alternate reps at a partnered station, complete the finish welds, and leave that evening with a steel project you built yourself.

Build a sculptural steel vase and join its layered flowers, stems, and leaves.

Fit and weld square steel tube into a bold, interlocking geometric sculpture.
Backyard Fire Pit
Assemble and weld a sturdy faceted fire pit made for evenings outside.
Everything is provided. Your kit will be ready. All you have to do is show up in safe clothing.

Bring water in summer and dress in safe cotton layers when it’s cold.

A cotton T-shirt and cotton pants are fine. Wear closed shoes or boots, and no synthetic clothing.

Questions before you suit up?

Do I need any prior welding or shop experience?
None. This workshop starts at square one. You will learn the safety rules and machine setup before the welder is powered on, then build skill one bead at a time with Michael nearby.
What should I wear?
Wear cotton pants and fully closed shoes or boots. A 100% cotton T-shirt is fine. Do not wear polyester, leggings, synthetic blends, or other synthetic clothing because sparks can melt those materials. We provide the welding helmet, jacket, safety glasses, and heavy-duty gloves.
Which project can I make?
Choose the Steel Vase with Welded Flowers, Geometric Knotted Cube, or Backyard Fire Pit when you register. Your project kit will be prepared before class, and you will take the finished build home that evening.
Do I need to bring tools or materials?
No. Everything is provided, including your prepared project kit, steel, consumables, tools, and professional safety gear. All you have to do is show up in safe cotton clothing and closed shoes or boots.
Is welding safe for a complete beginner?
Yes when it is taught with the right controls. The class is capped at six students, PPE is provided, and everyone learns grounding, gas handling, fire prevention, eye protection, and safe positioning before hands-on welding begins.
Can I bring a friend, partner, or teenager?
Absolutely—book one seat for every participant. The minimum age for this class is 16.
How do I pay and secure my class spot?
Payment is completed securely through Calendly when you choose your Thursday and project. A session cannot be booked or held until the $289 payment is successfully completed in Calendly.
Where is the class, and why does Apple Maps show a different address?
The class is at 14339 County Road 44, Platteville, CO 80651. Google Maps displays that address as written. Apple Maps may label the same correct location as 14339 Highway 256—both addresses point to the same place.
Is there a restroom or climate control?
A clean portable restroom is available on-site during class. The workshop is inside a working 100-year-old barn with no air conditioning or central heat, so bring water and dress in safe layers for the forecast.
